Generating neighboring practices to nurture flourishing communities

Spiritual Formation

Spiritual formation is at the heart of everything we do in Neighborhood Seminary. Spiritual formation takes place in small groups led by trained spiritual directors, is part of every class experience, and happens when we gather for worship in geographic cohorts.

Spiritual formation is the intentional nurturing of knowledge of God and self through prayer and other spiritual practices.

The goal for spiritual formation in Neighborhood Seminary is to equip participants to:

Be grounded in God’s love for them and for the world

Be able to discern God’s presence in the neighborhood

Be able to companion others with respect and compassion, understanding that each person’s spiritual journey is unique

Practice responsible self-care as a basic practice of missional spirituality

Learn to live in a posture of listening prayer that leads to loving engagement with others
